The “mid-year slump” is a familiar feeling to all. For school-age children, this may result in a lack of motivation or interest in completing work. Children and parents new to the country may experience further difficulties as they are not completely familiar with the U.S. school system.
JVS’s Refugee department will host a workshop for refugee parents on November 25th, focused on strategies for overcoming the mid-year slump. Topics will include understanding report cards, following up with teachers, re-engaging children in learning, and planning for the rest of the school year.
For more information and to register for the workshop, please contact Carmel Rigueur at crigueur@jvsnj.org or 862-704-2271.
