Center for Economic Opportunity

The new JVS Center for Economic Opportunity is a “one-stop shop” where local job-seekers can receive valuable job skills training, professional career counseling and job search assistance, and help connecting to jobs that pay a living wage and offer opportunities for advancement in in-demand industries. Our staff works with local employers to identify open positions, assess their hiring needs, and then provide them with qualified, trained workers who are prepared to be successful in the workplace. By working with area businesses and prospective employees alike, JVS of MetroWest creates a win-win situation for everyone involved–and helps strengthen our local community in the process.

“I wanted more than a job—I wanted a career. The classes I took at JVS helped me build the skills I needed to find a new position in my dream industry. I know it’s just entry level, but it’s a start—and that’s very exciting.”

Courses

Certified Production Technician/OSHA 30

The Certified Production Technician (CPT) training program provides the core knowledge and skills required to recognize, through certification, individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of advanced manufacturing production at the front-line (entry-level to front-line supervisor) through successful completion of the certification assessments. The goal of the CPT certification is to raise the level of performance of production technicians both to assist individuals in finding higher-wage jobs and to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company’s productivity and competitiveness.

The training covers the core competency areas that the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) has determined will give workers the skills needed for positions across all production facilities. The CPT portion of the program consists of four parts:

  • Safety
  • Quality Practices and Measurement
  • Manufacturing Processes and Production
  • Maintenance Awareness

Supplemental to the CPT curriculum, the training also covers an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry course designed to educate workers on workplace and job-site safety. The OSHA course can benefit workers in the following fields:

  • Factory Operations
  • Manufacturing
  • Storage
  • Warehousing
  • And more

Upon successful completion of the training, individuals will be eligible for OSHA30 Certification.
